It's Done! It's Done! PLAGUE ZONE Is Done!!!

I still intend to bang out a more informative post about my wild adventures at Norwescon, but I've been obsessed with a final polish of Zone. You'd think it was the end of the world or something. Ha. The book is in my editor's hands at last.

Off subject: I lost the PKD but here's my cosmic boobyprize. Minotauro has declared La Plaga a bestseller in the Spanish market, which means my American publisher is now changing my byline for Plague Zone to read "Jeff Carlson, International Bestselling Author." I do like me the sound of that! Wow!

To our left, we have a little book porn -- not pornography of people, but porno for book lovers. Look at those tasty muffins sitting in the window display. Must... buy... them... Touch... them...

Also fun, here's a link to charts compiled by one of Spain's book chains, which has Antidoto at #1 today on the very top of the heap. And that's in hardcover as a mainstream novel.

More soon.

Yeah, yeah, first he becomes an international best selling author, and next thing you know, he's jetting off to Europe and forgetting the little people... (j/k)

On the other hand -- YAY FOR DONE. Now to patiently wait while the publishers do their magic. December's not that far away. If I tell myself that enough, I might even believe it.

I'll post cover art, back jacket copy, and the first chapter as these things come together, Kat. Hopefully that will ease the PAIN! :)

A question, if you don't mind my asking...

I realize becoming a bestselling author does not automatically propel one into the wealth category of authors like, say, J. K. Rowling -- but surely, hopefully, there must be some financial benefit to having arrived at said status.

So the question is, just how many BMW's do you now have parked outside your mansion?????

Second question: does all this fame make a film of the first book any more likely???

Enquiring minds want -- ney, DEMAND to know!

Alas, neither mansion nor BMWs are on the scene just yet. We did buy Diana a new car when the German deal came together, but she was way overdue for it, driving a 14 year old Acura Integra -- and what we bought was a Nissan Altima. Sensible to the end.

Yes, I'm *almost* making a living at my writing now, but publishers part with money only grudgingly, and in installments, and always late. It's tough to budget when 3 - 5 months go by without a penny.

This is not to deter you or me, Italian Joe. There *are* writers making a comfortable and consistent living from their work. I'm still at least a half- or full notch from that level.

Remember, Spain is basically 10 times smaller than the USA. Yes, bestsellerdom *anywhere* is totally awesome, but we haven't moved into the 9500 square foot, one tennis court, two pools compound just yet. ;)

Go buy more of my books for your friends.
