!!! I'm Alive !!!

Yes, I'm still alive, and I can't believe it's been nearly a month since my last update. The good news is there's been some good skiing and some good writing and things are good, only busy as usual. We just mailed our Christmas cards. Honestly.

A fan emailed last night to ask how the new book is going. Here's a photo I've been meaning to post.

This is a picture of the Sharp-Toothed Hand Duck alongside a massive pile of research. At this point, I believe I have over 600 pages of print-outs, clippings, brochures, and research papers. That's right. I've read way more material than the manuscript itself will be unless I want my agents and editors to kill me. As far as the ms. goes, we're looking at a 550 page whopper, max. More than that and I need to be writing epic fantasy, which I ain't.

Anyone care to guess the subject matter? Just put a microscope to this photo. I'm sure there are obvious clues... :)

Let's see now ... 600 pages of research means 600 opportunities for a paper cut. That's it! Some insidious organization has added a nanotech poison to the world's paper supply, and the resulting panic is destroying the global economy! After all, in a nanotech world, an innocent paper cut could mean death, or worse!

Hmmm... fluffy white zombie bunnies? Mutant penguins?

If this photo really is any indication, then clearly this is a tale "bound" to move along at a very fast "clip." Our Hero feels life is "stacked" against him and "spirals" into despair. There is no plot; it's literary fiction.

Yeah, that sounds like you.

Hmmm. A novel about white zombie bunnies sounds exactly like a tale bound to move along a fast clip. You two are close. TOO close!

:P

Hmm... let me guess. The book is about... paper! Because that's all I see. :-)

Is it about a conspiracy by the paper companies to detonate an EMP, thus destroying all electronics and forcing a return to paper communications?

Best,
Rebecca D.

Aha ha ha. The EMPs were in the *last* book, Agent Drayer...

Oops. My bad. :-)
